ARTIST STATEMENT
There is a clear and vital connection to my ethnic heritage that guides my visual endeavors. The Chinese side is a constant influence to go Rococo decorative, filling every space with additional lines and shapes. The Japanese side seeks simplicity, calm, quiet, introspective surfaces. This is a continual discord with every work, and has the potential to add energy to paintings.
I have found a kinship to Frank Stella and his selection of shape and texture. Kandinsky's playful lines, Joan Miro's sense of melody. Musically, Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi, and the sounds of classical clarinetists enthrall me.
